A "Winn-ing" Deal?
|

The New York Yankees and Johnny Damon officially parted ways yesterday when the team signed outfielder Randy Winn.
I just don't get it.
Why would the Yankees let three of the biggest clutch players from last year- Damon, Hideki Matsui, and Melky Cabrera- get away?
Will their replacements- Winn, Nick Johnson- be able to pick up where their predecessors left off?
I guess the Yankees don't believe in the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" mantra of living.
Johnny had the perfect swing for the new Yankee Stadium. His personality was infectious. Yankees fans embraced him as their own, despite his place in Red Sox lore.
This was a case of stubbornness. Scott Boras didn't want to come down in price, the Yankees refused to come up, and both sides just said "forget you."
I'm not going to pretend I know more than Brian Cashman & Co., but the fact this deal fell through the cracks is mind-boggling.

Garrett Hartley is Psychic

New Orleans Saints kicker Garrett Hartley should play the lottery today (and give me the winnings!)
He had a "premonition" that he was going to kick the game- winning field goal:
"I couldn't sleep and I called my dad at 2:30 in the morning. I told him, 'Dad, I think I'm gonna kick the game-winner, 42 yards by the right hash.' The first thing he said was, 'You should be sleeping.' Then he said that I know what to do, I've been doing it my whole life.''
What ended up happening?
Five minutes into overtime, he lined up to kick the winning field goal. The ball was spotted on the right hashmark, 40 yards away.
"That was an amazing feeling, a very surreal thing, two yards away. I've never believed in stuff like that.''
Spooky!

I Don't Get It

In reading up on this weekend's AFC Championship game, I've come across something very interesting- New England Patriots fans are hardcore rooting for the New York Jets this weekend!
Huh?!
I remember when my New York Giants played the Patriots in the Super Bowl, Jets fans were actually rooting for New England because they didn't want to hear about the G-men constantly. Again, very puzzling.
Hey wait a minute...is the Jets fan a Patriots fan undercover, and vice versa?
I could be on to something!
But seriously, how could you root for your biggest rival to do well? It's like me rooting for the Dallas Cowboys. Um, no! I never want to see them win another game again!
So I decided to research this crazy behavior, and I've come to find out that the Tom Brady/Peyton Manning rivalry is stronger than I realized. Maybe not between the two men, but between their fans. The jealousy each side has for the other blinds them to the point where they become delusional enough to root for teams they have no business pulling for!
So Patriots fans, Colts fans, talk to me. Am I off base here?
For the record- Team Peyton, but go Jets!

What About Them JETS?!

Overall, NFL Divisional Playoff Weekend was sub par, but it sure ended with a BANG!
The New York Jets, with rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez and rookie head coach Rex Ryan, have a date with the Indianapolis Colts for the AFC Championship game!
The San Diego Chargers almost made it too easy for the Jets to prevail, losing to Gang Green 17-14. Phillip Rivers threw two interceptions in the third quarter, while the rest of the team kept tripping over themselves with dumb penalties.
But the biggest goat by far is kicker Nate Kaeding, who missed not one, not two, but THREE field goal attempts!
Call me crazy, but the Jets have the same feel that the 2007 New York Giants had- the "road warriors" label, knocking off huge favorites- it's deja vu all over again!
PS- How sh*&tty must Eric Mangini feel right now? The Jets AND Brett Favre are one game away from the Super Bowl. Someone put the former "ManGenius" on suicide watch!
As for the rest of the games...well, they sucked.
The Dallas Cowboys reverted back to their choke-job ways and barely showed up to play the Minnesota Vikings. The Cowpokes got annihilated, 34-3.
Brett Fav-re's pack will travel to New Orleans to play the Saints, who picked apart the Arizona Cardinals' pathetic excuse for a defense (like the Princess said!) 45-14.
The biggest shock for me was how terrible the Baltimore Ravens did against the Colts, losing 20-3.
